Often my work starts with walking through silent spaces, full of light and shadow, such as Gothic cathedrals or forests of beech trees.  I develop my paintings in the studio from sketches and photographs and using my memory. Using simplified forms I try to create abstract expressions of the silence, mystery, spirituality, confusion and wonderment that these actual places inspire.
