I graduated in 2004 with a Fine Arts Degree from Central Saint Martins. I studied this whilst I was working in legal education. At art school we were encouraged to engage with conceptual art - in my case photography and printing. I’d always loved painting and starting to work part-time which gave me the opportunity to join an Open Studio where you pursue your own projects helped by an inspirational professional artist. Every week we learn something new, and I love developing the technical skills of making a painting from stretching canvas, choosing and using oil paints and brushes, colour theory to how to compose a painting from my own ideas. Working in this motivational atmosphere is inspiring.  It’s been life changing for me, for the first time in my art career I feel I may actually have made something that I would like to show to other people.

I use these skills, along with my knowledge of history of art, to deliver workshops to help people enjoy their experience of going to galleries and looking at art. We build on our existing skills of observation and interpretation, learn how to spend time looking at and seeing art (paintings, drawings and sculpture), as well as forming and discussing our own views on them.
